apa macam, boss?

I was reading the paper (The Sun—I don’t care what my Radio & TV Journalism lecturer said, it’s not a ‘propaganda paper’! Talk about propaganda, he’s the one working with a government radio station!) and my jaw dropped (literally) with incredulity at today’s headlines.

Dearly Beloved UMNO Youth No.2 Khairy Jamaluddin calling for a scrapping of government petrol subsidies because it is “Malaysia’s New Mega Project” (uhh, so sending a part-time model into space as a glorified space tourist as well as wanting to buy the Soyuz craft is an excellent justification of the rakyat’s money?!). “Give back to the people who need it”, he said.

Now, I have absolutely no problem with that. But what I do have a problem with, however, is the definition of ‘people who need it’. If they were equitable in their distribution of funds to the Truly Needy as opposed to Lazy Leeches Living of Taxpayers’ Money, I’m sure none of us would really kick up a big fuss about it. And we can understand a review of fuel subsidies because of the rise in crude oil prices, Malaysia is also fortunate to have relatively low fuel prices compared to other places around the region, but a complete scrapping?! When our public transportation system alone is nothing to shout, nay, even whisper about?!

Cutting off the fuel subsidies will only kickstart a chain of events that would probably cause heaps of discontent among the already dissatisfied factions of the public. Increase in fuel prices mean prices of food, cooking oil, gas and well, basically everything else, going up too.

What really irked me is him saying that they should increase fuel prices to deter people from using their cars, and that a Pak Cik on a motorcycle has greater need for the subsidy than someone driving a Merc. Let me then say that essentially the need for transport is great here, regardless of vehicle—heck, I’d ride a motorbike around if I were allowed to, but since my youngest uncle was killed almost 20 years ago in a hit-and-run accident on his bike, I’d say it’s highly unlikely. Why discriminate people based on their vehicle of choice? Granted there are rich poofs who cruise around in their expensive cars, but those people are beyond help -_-”

Things brings me to another thing I feel passionately about: the horrible public transportation system here. The public transport system in KL city itself is fab, that’s no problem—the problem lies in the suburbs like Subang Jaya, which has a massive population but only one measly train station, and buses that run according to the whims and fancies of the drivers, and goodness knows why, but very rarely has a clearly decipherable route.

I swear to God if there was a good public transport system enabling me to get from home to uni and around Subang, I’d hand my car keys in in a heartbeat. You think I ruddy like driving in these infernal traffic jams with a wonky knee in a manual car?! GAAH!

Sorry, I get worked up about these things. Especially with the speeches going on during the UMNO Youth Assembly, and the reportage of it in the papers…good grief, I honestly feel like crying. Doing something. Anything.

On another note, am probably not attending the BERSIH rally tomorrow :( I know it is so hypocritical because I’ve been bugging people to join, but my father and aunt (both former Police personnel) forbade me from going, even adding that if I get chucked in jail it’s my problem and they won’t come bail me out because they told me not to go in the first place :( I know they’re kidding, but the warning is clear; even I’m not that dense.

Tems forwarded me this link though, for any of yous considering going, on what to do during the rally. Truly folks, I’m sorry :( I know the authorities are merely using scare tactics, but sad to say it’s working. Many others have also backed out. It’s so frustrating wanting to do something and not being able to, but I console myself that there are better ways of doing my part.

Like asking all of you Above-21s to GO REGISTER TO RUDDY VOTE, CONFOUND IT! Bring your IC to any post office and tell them you want to register, that’s all! And when the time comes, also please go and vote-lah, no point you register already then not vote right -_-”

On (yet) another vote, I am not going out for the next few days until my seafood allergy clears. It’s been almost a month since that fateful evening when I polished off an entire lot of crab made by my grandfather, conveniently forgetting to take my anti-histamine tablets, and as the result of that have had a bad rash around my mouth for ages.

The good doctor has prohibited me from putting anything else other than the creams she’s given me on my face, so I refuse to go anywhere that requires me to look ‘nice’ or presentable, even, because I can’t use makeup (wtf). Don’t get all hoity-toity with me either, because this is a personal choice ok! I like looking groomed and presentable and aesthetically pleasing so, there.

Huh.

On a final (I swear) note, I watched Stardust last night! *swoons* I LOVED it. It was exactly how I pictured it when I read the book, though of course there were parts that differed. But no matter, I adored the movie, and very rarely do I do that nows-a-days. *beams*
